World Cancer Day ; Cancer treatment can take a lot out of a person, but some people have fought the disease strongly. They serve as inspiration for those battling the disease and we must fight till the very end. There are some famous faces of Bollywood who have been the worst experience in their life- Being Diagnosed with Cancer and told about this to the world.
Manisha Koirala is a brave survivor of a deadly Stage IV Ovarian Cancer. She was diagnosed with the disease in the year 2012. Manisha Koirala shared the journey of cancer in a book-‘Healed How Cancer gave me a new life. She shared that writing a cancer memoir is not easy still trying to write through many spasms, n sleeplessness n mood. She said that she heard the news back in Kathmandu. It was not surprising she said as in my family we have had cancer incidents. On cancer awareness day, she took to Instagram to share her thoughts. “I want to wish everyone who is going through this arduous journey of cancer treatment, a lot of love and success. ‘I know the journey is tough, but you are tougher than that.’ I want to pay my respects to those who succumbed to it and celebrate it with those who conquered it,” she wrote“We need to spread the awareness on the disease and all the stories that are filled with hope need to be told and retold. Let’s be kind to ourselves and the world.”
Lisa Ray was diagnosed with blood cancer and was cured by a stem-cell transplant. During a press conference, she said “Cancer has transformed my life in so many ways. I drew so much support from people all around the world especially India because I was open about my cancer diagnosis. It did make me very nervous before making it public because I didn’t know how people would react. But thankfully, I received great support”.
Actress Sonali Bendre was diagnosed with metastatic cancer in July 2018. Last year on National Cancer Survivor Day, she posted a video on Instagram of herself undergoing chemotherapy next to one of her well again. “How time flies … today when I look back, I see strength, I see weakness but most importantly I see the will to not let the C-word define how my life will be after it, “She also shared in one of the interviews with Harper’s Bazaar India-“When my PET scan showed up cancer had spread all over my abdomen, like fairy lights scattered all over, and when the doctor in New York said that there was about 30 percent chance of it all going away, we were shattered”.
Sanjay Dutt was diagnosed with lung cancer in the year 2020 and for treatment, he went to the US. On his kids’ birthday, he shared the news of his victory over cancer by posting a post on Instagram. He wrote, “The last few weeks were a very difficult time for my family and me. But as they say, God gives the hardest battles to his strongest soldiers. And today, on the occasion of my kids’ birthday, I am happy to come out victorious from this battle and be able to give them the best gift I can–the health and well-being of our family.”
Yuvraj Singh is a fit athlete and cricketer. He also not believed that he had cancer. He fight with disease successfully and he shared that he also battled and it was extremely painful to play the 2011 World Cup where he was the man of the series. In his book, The Test Of My Life, Yuvraj writes, “I was not going to feel sorry for myself. No, why should I? When my form came back, or when I picked up wickets, or when I got the big scores, or when I got player of the match, or hit six sixes, had I ever asked God, ‘why me?’ Of course not. Often in my career, I have been the man with silver in the fist. Have I ever asked God, ‘why me?’ No, never. So when the illness came I had no right to ask ‘why me?”
Now on World Cancer Day Ayushman Khurana’s wife or author Tahira Kashyap talks about Cancer. Tahira was diagnosed with DCIS(ductal carcinoma in situ) in her right breast with high-grade malignant cells. She says that I got a lot of strength from many celebrities and many cancer patients have told her they were inspired by the way she didn’t let cancer make her believe that life is over after being diagnosed. “Yes, and it encourages me too on multiple levels.
She included the scars her battle with cancer left behind too and used them to empower people on social media. She said I want to spread the awareness of early breast cancer detection which not only is treatable but also curable. She agrees that she chose to not look at cancer as something after which life has no meaning. Tahira had taken to Instagram to document her fight against cancer to inspire other cancer patients and spread awareness about the disease.
