Sonam Kapoor is a well-known Bollywood actress and the daughter of the late actor Anil Kapoor. She was born into a Bollywood family, but she doesn’t need her father’s name to make a reputation for herself in the Indian film industry. Biography
Sonam Kapoor Ahuja was born on 9 June, 1985 in Chembur, Bombay. She is the daughter of actor and producer Anil Kapoor. Her mother is former model and designer. Her grandfather is Surinder Kapoor who was a filmmaker and founder of Anil Kapoor Films Company. She has two siblings- sister Rhea Kapoor and brother Harshvardhan Kapoor. Her family members belongs to film industry. Boney Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor are her uncles and Sridevi was her aunt. Her paternal cousin’s- Arjun Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Mohit Marwah and maternal second cousin is Ranveer Singh. She completed her schooling from Arya Vidya Mandir School, Juhu. In school time she was one of naughty and carefree child. She is trained in Kathak, classical music and Latin dance. When she was 15 years old she worked as waitress which was her first job. Then she took pre-university education in theatre and arts at United World College of South East Asia, Singapore. Later she started courses in economics and political science from University of Mumbai.
Career
She started hear career as assistant in movie Black directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali . During the production of movie she developed interest in acting and Sanajay Leela Bhansali approached her for movie Saawariya, co star with Ranbir Kapoor and Salman Khan. For the movie she reduced 35 kg weight. The movie was not gained much success, it was commercial failed. The film earned her a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut nomination and the Stardust Award for Superstar of Tomorrow – Female. In year 2009, she played a role of aspiring singer opposite Waheeda Rehman and Abhishek Bachchan in movie Delhi-6. This movie was again flop at box office. In year 2010, she appeared in romantic comedy movie I Hate Luv Storys opposite Imran Khan.
This movie was hit commercial success. Next , she was starred in Aisha movie alongside Abhay Deol, Ira Dubey, Cyrus Sahukar, Amrita Puri, Anand Tiwari, Arunoday Singh, Lisa Haydon which was produced by her sister Rhea Kapoor. In year 2011, she starred in Thank You , the film received poor reviews. Then she played the romantic interest of Shahid Kapoor in Pankaj Kapoor’s romantic drama-Mausam, which was flop movie. Next year, Sonam played a computer hacker opposite Abhishek Bachchan, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Bipasha Basu in the Abbas–Mustan-directed heist film, Players, a remake of 2003’s The Italian Job. This movie was also commercially failed. In year 2013, she casted in Raanjhanaa movie which was the turning point in her career.
In movie she played the role of young muslim student from Varanasi who is drawn into politics after the murder of her Sikh lover.After the success of movie she appeared in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, a biopic on athlete Milkha Singh. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was one of the top-grossing Bollywood film of the year. Next, she appeared in Bewakoofiyaan movie co-starred with Ayushmann Khurana and Rishi Kapoor. Then her next movie with Fawad Khan in the romantic comedy Khoobsurat. From this movie she received a Filmfare best actress nomination for her performance. In 2015, she portrayed the role of runway bride in Dolly Ki Doli co-starred with Rajkumar Rao, Varun Sharma, Pulkit Samrat. She was nominated Filmfare Award for Best Actress.Her next movie was Prem Rattan Dhan Payo co-starred with Salman Khan in which she portrayed the role of Rajkumari Maithili Devi, princess looking for love.

She was cast as Neerja Bhanot, who died while saving the passengers of the hijacked Pan Am Flight 73 in 1986. After taking 2 years of break from screen , in 2018 she played a role of social worker in R Balki’s comedy drama Pad Man co-starred with Akshay Kumar and Radhika Apte. In 2019, Kapoor starred in the coming-of-age film Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga (as Sonam K Ahuja), co-starring her father, Juhi Chawla, and Rajkummar Rao. Sonam next starred in Abhishek Sharma’s film adaptation of Anuja Chauhan’s romantic comedy novel The Zoya Factor, in which she played the titular character of a clumsy woman who becomes a lucky charm for the Indian cricket team.
