Early Life and Biography
She was born in Washington, D.C., to Joel and Adele Sandberg, into a Jewish family on 28 August 1969 . She has two younger siblings: David Sandberg, a brother, and Michelle Sandberg, a sister. Her father is an opthalmologist, and her mother is a Frenh language college professor. When she was two years old, her family moved to North Miami Beach, Florida. She attended North Miami Beach High School, where she graduated ninth in her class in 1987. She served as sophomore class president, was inducted into the National Honor Society, and served on the senior class executive board. Sandberg enrolled at Harvard College in 1987. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics in 1991, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, and was awarded the John H. Williams Prize for the top graduating student in economics. She enrolled at Harvard Business School in 1993 and received her MBA with honours in 1995.
In the beginning of career for about a year (1995–1996), she worked as a management consultant for McKinsey & Company. From 1996 to 2001, she worked for Lawrence Summers, who was the United States Secretary of the Treasury under President Bill Clinton at the time. During the Asian financial crisis, Sandberg assisted the Treasury in its work on debt forgiveness in the developing world.
She later went on to work for Google, where she was in charge of online sales of Google’s advertising and publishing products, as well as sales operations for Google’s consumer products and Google Book Search.
In March 2008, Facebook announced Sandberg’s hiring as COO and her departure from Google. Sandberg wasted no time in attempting to figure out how to make Facebook profitable. Facebook’s leadership agreed to rely on advertising, “with the ads discreetly presented,” and the company became profitable by 2010. In 2012, she was appointed as the eighth (and first female) member of Facebook’s board of directors.
It was reported in April 2014 that Sandberg had sold more than half of her Facebook stock since the company went public.
Sandberg announced on June 1, 2022, that she would leave Meta as COO in the fall of 2022 but would remain on the board of directors. Sandberg stated that she is stepping down because “it is time for me to write the next chapter of my life.”
Sandberg married in 1993 to Brian Kraff but after a year they divorced. In 2004 she married to Dave Goldberg , an executive of Yahoo and CEO of SurveyMonkey in 2009. Couple had one daughter and one son. Unfortunately, her husband died due to heart arrhythmia.
