She was born on 12 July 1989 in Sydney, Australia. Her full name is Phoebe Jane Elizabeth Tonkin. She is the daughter of Nicholas Tonkin and Jannyfer Tonkin. She has a sister named Abby Tonkin. She began taking dancing classes at the age of four, including classical ballet, hip hop, modern dance, and tap dance. Tonkin began taking classes at the Wharf Theatre’s Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) when he was 12 years old. Tonkin attended Queenwood School for Girls and graduated with honours.
