Marielle Heller is an american actress, writer and director. She is famous for her movies that was directed by her- The Diary of a Teenage Girl (2015), Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018), and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019).
Biography
Marielle Stiles Heller was born on 1 October, 1979 in Marin country, California. Her parents are Steve Heller who is a chiropractor and Annie Stiles Heller an artist and teacher. She has two siblings who are younger than her sister Emily, a stand-up comedian, producer and writer and brother Nate, a musician. She was interested in acting since their childhood time. She was a former member of Alameda Children’s musical theater where she performed the roles of Rabbit in Winnie The Pooh , Templeton the rat in Chariotte’s Web and Polly in The Magician’s Nephew. She attended high school for pursuing degree in community theater. Then she joined theater at UCLA and then Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
Career
She started her career as an actor at the Magic Theatre, American Conservatory Theatre, Berkeley Repertory Theatre and La Jolla Playhouse. After that she worked in shows-Spin City and Single Dads. She directed film- The Diary of a Teenage Girl which was wrote by her. In year 2012 she was selected for Sundance Screenwriting and Directing Fellow. In year 2015 the film received Grand Prix of the Generation 14Plus at the Berlin International Film Festival and featured with best first feature at the Independent Spirit Awards. She next directed Can You Even Forgive Me? Which is based on writer Lee Israel’s memoir. Then she casted actress Melissa Mc Carthy for the role of actress which is based on the film St. Vincent. In 2018, it was announced in one of the interview taken by Tom Junod for Esquire magazine , that Heller would direct A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. The film was filmed in Pittsburgh. After that she workes as an actor in the Netflix show The Queen’s Gambit as Alma Wheatley.
Relationship
Heller is married to comedian Jorma Taccone . They both met in 1999 when they were both undergraduate students at UCLA. Couple have a son Wylie Red Heller Taccone, was born in December 2014.
