Lara Dutta is an Indian Actress revealed that she decided to take a break from movies as she was tired of performing the roles of hero’s wife or girlfriend. She shares with the news agency, “By the time I reached my early 30s, I honestly may have gotten blunted. You were cast because a glamorous actress had to be cast in a film. You were invariably playing the hero’s girlfriend or wife’s role. I got tired of it. Lara opened up about being 43 and still working in the industry, stating that ‘the industry is not kind’. She feels my 40’s have been the best time for me as an actor.

The kind of roles I am playing has depth. People are looking at my capabilities and talent. Lara was the winner of the Miss Universe 2000 pageant, Cyprus, and was previously crowned as Miss Intercontinental 1997. In the year 2003, Lara made her first debut in the Andaaz movie with co-actors Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra. This movie was hit a great success at the box-office and won her a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She then appeared in the number of films, some of which are failed and some got successful- Masti(2004), Kaal(2005), No Entry(2005), Partner(2007), Blue(2009), Housefull(2010). Lara has been often regarded as one of the stylish and socially conscious actresses in Bollywood. She has eloquent speaking skills.

She also added that she decided to do comedy films as they provided her the opportunity to perform more instead of just being a ‘glamorous heroine on screen’. By the time I had my daughter in my early 30s, I had gotten jaded and tired of that. It was important and refreshing for me to take that step away,” she added. Speaking further she says, “You have credible actors like Madhuri, Kajol, even me, yet when they come on screen, people pass comments like ‘ ab buddhi lagne Lagi hai’ or ‘ yaar ab moti ho Gayi hai’.

Lara was born in a Punjabi Hindu family. Her father L.K Dutta is Wing Commander and her mother Jennifer Dutta (Anglo-Indian). She completed her high school at St. Francis Xavier Girl’s High School and the Frank Anthony Public School. She did graduation in Economics and a minor in communications from the University of Mumbai. Lara got married to Indian Tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi on 16 February 2011 in Bandra. Now the couple has one daughter Saira Bhupathi was born on 20 January 2012.

It has been around years since she makes a comeback to acting with web series- Hundred, Hiccups, Hookups, Kaun Banegi Shikharwati. She said, “I did so much work in the last 18 months, more than what I have done in the last six years put together. It has been an incredibly liberating time as an artist to be able to play these diverse characters.

She has also been a part of #MeTooMovement in India. Lara and her husband Mahesh Bhupathi were the first ones to step forward and speak on this matter. She told, in one of the events- We The Women director Saajid Khan had inappropriately behaved with a female actor on the film’s set.

Lara feels fantastic as she feels the difference today is that women are standing up for women. Today s women do all –manage the home, take care of family, we wear multiple hats in a day. This generation of women has become more vocal and they are empowering each other.

Lara Dutta is a real example of ‘Beauty with Brains’. She is also known for her sense of humor and writing talent. Lara has hosted the International Indian Film Academy Awards 5 times. She also participated as a talent judge for a reality show- High Fever. Lara is also active on the youtube channel and offers several videos of Yoga. In the year 2012, she launched her DVD which consisted of prenatal routines and meditation techniques. In the year 2019, she launched her beauty products named Arias(vegetarian beauty line).
