Krishankumar Kunnath was a famous personality of Bollywood, known as KK, an Indian playbacksinger. This multi-award-winning Indian playback singer was best known for his work in Hindi films such as Bachna Ae Haseeno and Jhankaar Beats. Early Life and Biography
KK was born on 23 August 1968 to Malayali parents C.S. Menon and Kunnath Kanakavalli. After KK birth his family moved to New Delhi and he raised there. He was the student of Delhi’s Mount St Mary’s School and did his graduation in commerce from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University. He had six month period as a marketing executive and after that he moved to Mumbai.
In 1994, he sent his demo tape to Louis Banks, Ranjit Barot, and Lesle Lewis in the hopes of getting a break in the music industry. He was approached by UTV and asked to sing a jingle for a Santogen Suiting advertisement. He sang over 3,500 jingles in 11 languages. In Mumbai, he got his first break singing jingles for UTV.
KK debuted as a playback singer with A. R. Rahman’s hit song “Kalluri Saaley,” followed by “Hello Dr.” from Kadir’s Kadhal Desam, and “Strawberry Kannae” from AVM Productions’ musical film Minsara Kanavu (1997). His Bollywood debut came with the songs “Tadap Tadap” from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) and “Chhod Aaye Hum” from Gulzar’s Maachis (1996).
Sony Music had just launched in India in 1999, and they were looking to sign a new artist. KK was chosen as the new artist, and he released his debut solo album, Pal, with music composed by Lesle Lewis. The songs “Aap Ki Dua,” “Yaaron,” and the title track “Pal” quickly became popular among young people. After an eight-year hiatus, KK released his second album, Humsafar, in 2008. Famous songs from this album include “Aasman Ke,” “Dekho Na,” “Yeh Kahan Mil Gaye Hum,” and “Rain Bhai Kaari (Maajhi).”
KK has also sung songs for television shows such as Just Mohabbat, Shaka Laka Boom Boom, Kuch Jhuki Si Palkein, Hip Hip Hurray, Kkavyanjali, and Just Dance. He also co-wrote the theme song for the 2010 Star Parivaar Awards with Shreya Ghoshal. He was invited to serve on the jury for the talent show Fame Gurukul. In 2008, KK performed a song called “Tanha Chala” for the Pakistani TV show The Ghost. KK took part in MTV India’s most recent musical venture, Coke Studio. There, he performed a qawwali called “Chadta Suraj” with the Sabri Brothers, as well as a recomposed version of his exquisite track “Tu Aashiqui Hai” from the film Jhankaar Beats.He also appeared in Sony Mix TV Show and MTV Unplugged Season 3 in 2014. KK appeared on the television singing reality show Indian Idol Junior Season 2 in 2015. After ten years, he appeared as a judge and guest jury member on a singing reality show.
