 Jonathan Bailey is an  English actor. He received nominations for Outstanding Newcomer at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards in 2012 for the role of South Downs, Cassio in the Royal National Theatre’s Othello in 2013, the London revival of musical The Last Five Years in 2016, the West End revival of The York Realist in 2018, the West End gender-swapped revival of Company for which he won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical in 2019, and the West End revival of Cock in 2022.


Jonathan Bailey was born on 25 April 1988 in  Oxfordshire  village of Benson. His mother  was an audiologist  and father  was a former  Rowse  Honey  managing director.  In his family he is the youngest son  among four siblings.  He studied dancing at The Oratory School and then received a music scholarship at Magdalen College School, where he played the piano and clarinet.


He auditioned for and earned the role of Tiny Tim in the 1995 Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) production of A Christmas Carol at the Barbican Theatre in London through a dance group he was a member of in Henley-on-Thames.He also appeared in the company’s 1996 production of Les Enfants du Paradis as Little Baptiste. He was playing Gavroche in a West End version of Les Misérables when he was eight years old.Bailey made his television debut at the age of nine in the Victorian period drama Bramwell. Guest appearances on long-running British television shows like Doctors and The Bill followed. In the BBC sitcom Off the Hook, he played the major role of a bunch of university freshmen. He played Prince Arthur in the RSC’s King John in 2003. In 2011, he starred in Campus, a semi-improvised sitcom written by Green Wing writers in which he played Flatpack, a college athlete with Olympic potential.Bailey starred as popstar Tom in the Disney Channel musical comedy Groove High in 2012.Bailey was offered the role of Cassio in director Nick Hytner’s production of Othello at the Royal National Theatre’s Olivier Theatre in 2013. In the same year, he played Tim Price in Duncan Sheik’s sold-out London run of Rupert Goold’s American Psycho at the Almeida Theatre, directed by Rupert Goold.Bailey starred as ambitious local journalist Olly Stevens in the first two series of ITV’s hit crime drama Broadchurch from 2013 to 2015. In 2014, he appeared as a guest star in Doctor Who’s eighth season episode “Time Heist.”Bailey debuted as Sam, a sex-obsessed and sexually confused estate agent in Phoebe Waller-first Bridge’s television project Crashing, which W magazine called as a “twisted version of Friends” in 2016. In 2017, he co-starred in an acclaimed production of King Lear at the Chichester Festival Theatre with Ian McKellen. Bailey performed in Peter Gill’s The York Realist, a Donmar Warehouse-Sheffield Theatres co-production, from February to April 2018. Since 2020, Bailey has played Anthony, 9th Viscount Bridgerton, in the Netflix series Bridgerton, which is based on Julia Quinn’s Regency romance books and is produced by Shonda Rhimes.


Jonathan Bailey’s marital status is unmarried. There is no more information that he is dating someone or not. In 2019,  he kissed a man  that appeared  to be actor  James Ellis  after winning  The Laurence  Oilivier  Award, implying that the two were dating at the time.
