Jason Butler Harner is an American actor who has appeared in films, television shows, and stage productions. He currently stars on NBC’s The Blacklist as FBI agent Walter Gary Martin.
Biography
Jason Butler was born on 9 October, 1970 in Elmira, New York. He was born in a middle class family to parents Freddy William Harner and Neena Butler. His middle name is his mother’s maiden name. He was grew up in suburban Northern Virginia. He completed his graduation in 1988 from T.C Williams High School, Alexandria, Virginia. After graduation he worked as an usher at the Eisenhower Theater, part of the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. In year 1992 he did his graduation in Bachelor of Arts from VCU. He worked as an apprentice at Actors Theatre of Louisville after graduating from VCU, and then proceeded to New York City, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts in the Graduate Acting Program from Tisch School of the Arts in 1997. In December 2007, Harner wrapped filming on Changeling. Gordon Stewart Northcott, a mechanic accused of murder, was played by him. He played Oliver Wolcott, Jr., the second United States Secretary of the Treasury, in the HBO miniseries John Adams. Harner appeared as a guest star in the Fringe pilot, which aired on Fox in September 2008.
Career
Jason Butler began his career with stage plays in year 1990 by playing a minor role in a play titled-”In What I Did Last Summer” by A.R Gurney. In 1994, he appeared in Brain Jucha’s play titled “In Love Less” at Theater Downtown Art Company, New York City. In 1997 he played in Hydriotaphia or the Death of Dr Browne by Tony Kushner and Henry VIII play by William Shakespeare. After that he worked and appeared in multiple successful plays -Transit of Venus(1998), Macbeth(1999), An Experiment with an Air Pump(1999), The Invention of Love(2000), Juno and the Paycock(2000). He also made his TV show as Palace Aide in a minor role in a drama TV series titled-” Guiding Light”. In 2001 he played the role in Crimes of the Heart opposite Amy Ryan. In following years he appeared in several play shows- Mr Fox : A Rumination, The Glass Menagerie, Hedda Gabler, Ornage Flower Water Play, The Paris Letter Play. He played the multiple leads as well as recurring roles in a TV series and web shows- Special Victims Unit(2006), The Good Wife(2009), CSI:Crime Scene Investigation, The Newsroom(2012), The Blacklist(2014), Ray Donovan(2015), Elementary(2017), Ozark(2017), Next(2020), The Walking Dead(2022).
