Amala Ratna Zandlie Dlamini known as Doja Cat is an American singer, songwriter and rapper. She gained maximum attention when music video for her 2018 song “Mooo” lead to numerous viral internet memes across the web.


She was born on 21 October 1995 in Tarzana, Los Angeles, California , United States. In her family, mother Deborah Sawyer is Jewish-American graphic designer and father Dumisiani Dlamini is a South African actor of Zulu descent. She has one brother. As a child she took dance and piano lessons and listened to a lot of music. Her music inspirations are Erica Badu, Rihanna, D’Angelo and Drake. When Doja cat was few months old, her mother migrated to New York city and she spent next five years of her life in the city. Then her mother introduced Doja to the world of art at the age of five by enrolling her in the ballet and jazz lessons. At the age of eight she and her family moved to Sai Anantam Ashram and practised hinduism for four years. In ashram she has been dancing the style of Indian classical dance called Bharatnatyam. Later thet moved to California in Oak Park. Where she started dance classes and experienced a “sporty childhood” often skteboarding and visiting Malibu for surf camps. After a time she moved on to breakdancing classes and joined a professional poplocking troupe with whom she competed in dance battles throughout Los Angeles while attending high school. Then she started taking lessons for audition from aunt for Central Los Angeles Area New High School, Los Angeles. She dropped her high school at the age of 16. She had lost interest in formal education and prefered to pursue an artistic career.


After dropping out of school, she spent all night and day browsing the internet, looking for beats and instrumentals from youtube which she downloaded and used to create her own music. While she was unemployed, she trained herself to sing, rap, and use GarageBand, and she regularly made music and uploaded it to SoundCloud. “So High” became her first permanent SoundCloud upload in late 2012, and it quickly drew the notice of record producer Yeti Beats, who encouraged her to record at his studio in the Echo Park neighbourhood, which also offered as “an sanctuary of sorts for Doja to escape the chaos at home.” At the age of 17, he connected her with RCA Records’ Kemosabe Records, where she signed in March 2014 under label executive Dr. Luke and his writing firm Prescription Songs. A temporary artist management arrangement with Roc Nation was also included in the transaction. In year 2014 she released her debut EP,”Purrr”. Then she released her solo commercial debut single prior to EP’s release. Later she appeared on the FOX series Empire in the third episode of the show’s first season. In year 2016, Maco and Dajo Cat collaborated on the song “Monster” form Maco’s 2017 mixtape, ‘ Children of The Rage’. In February 2018,Doja cat released the song “Roll with us”. In following month she relaesed “Go to Town” as lead single form her debut album with an accompanying music video. In same month “Candy” was released as the album’s second single. In year 2019, the track would become a sleeper hit after a “dance challenge” on the video-sharing platform TikTok. Amala, her first studio album, was released in March of 2018. In Europe and North America, the album charted (the United States and Canada). Candy, one of the album’s tracks, reached No. 86 on the Billboard Hot 100. Mooo!, her self-produced music video, was released in August 2018. was made available on YouTube. The song was a great hit, with millions of views on the video-sharing website. In 2019, she released Tia Tamera, a single with Rico Nasty.

In 2019, she re-released her debut album with three new tracks. One of the tunes is Juicy, her renowned hit. On the remix of the song, she included rapper Tyga. Millions of fans streamed and downloaded the song, making it a smash.Doja Cat followed up her debut album with a follow-up, Hot Pink, a year later. Bottom Bitch, Say So, Boss Bitch, and Like That are among the album’s hit songs. The album debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 chart just a few months after its release. She was invited to sing Say So on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show in 2020. In May 2020, she collaborated with Nicki Minaj on a remix of the song. In 2021 she also won the award for Top Female R and B artist at 2021 Billboard music Award. She also starred as the romantic interest of American rapper and comedian Lil Dicky in season 2 of the TV series ‘ Dave’. She also hosted the 2021 MTV Videos Music Awards ceemony, where she also performed the songs “Been Like This” and “You Right”. Later she featured on the song “Scoop” from Lil Nas X’s debut studio album Montero and song “Icy Hot” from American rapper Young Thug’s second studio album Punk. The music video for Planet her’s fourt single “Women” was released. In February, 2022 she released a cover of the song “Celebrity Skin” by American rock band ‘Hole’.
