Formerly known as the Dixie Chicks, the Chicks are an American country music band that shot to fame in the late 80s and early 90s. It comprises Natalie Maines, the lead singer in the group, and sisters by relation Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer, who is in charge of the multi-instrumentals that the band used in order to create music.
The group was founded as Dixie Chicks in 1989 by Laura Lynch. Though the group started with five members today, it comprises only three members after two members left in 1992 and 1993.
After being founded by Laura Lynch in 1989 and Robin Lynn Macy, a guitarist by profession and position in the group, it took the group 6 years to get noticed and signed to a well-known and established label in the industry.
The group witnessed its first major change when Robin Lynn Macy left the group, and the position of the lead vocalist was taken over by Laura Lynch, following which the group witnessed major success commercially starting in the year 1998.
However, chaos and tragedy ensued after the band invited trouble by remarking its London stating that the band was not endorsed or supporters of the war and were in fact “ashamed” of the fact that the then President Of the United States of America, Mr. George W. Bush was from Texas.
This happened right before the 2003 invasion of Iraq, which resulted in the triggering of boycotts in the US and backlash from fans. Following this incident, the band took a hiatus from their success and career and returned to the music industry with their new tours in 2010, 2013, and 2016.
In 2020, the group made the headlines again when they decided to drop the word taxi from their group name and rename it as ‘The Chicks’ only.
Because of the reason stated above, we can say that the band is blacklisted from the music industry and will never be spotted again working together as a true band. The band formed nearly 17 years ago has broken up due to a heartbreaking controversy for their fans.
In the span of the 31 years of their career, they have made remarkable achievements in American music history and have left many music groups behind them.
The group has faced its ups and downs with its controversy that let them take hiatus for seven years and then using two members because they decided to step off of the group now consists of three members who have p.m. solidly participating in the group since 1990 while the others left in 1992 and 1993 respectively.
The Chicks have received 61 awards till date and have been nominated 111 times by various prestigious award ceremonies and award associations. Out of the 61 awards they have received, they have received the very reputed Grammy award not once but 13 different times.
As for the other awards, they have received eight awards from the academy of country music awards, ten from country music association awards, and four from the American Music Awards, which marks that journey as a very successful music band in the history of American music.
