On Sunday, February 6 at 8:12 a.m legend singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away. She was hospitalized at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital due to symptoms of COVID-19, the reason for her death because of multi-organ failure. She was the ‘nightingale of India’ and a great inspiration to all music seekers.

Various celebrities pay tribute by sharing their memories and views for respected Lata Ji.

Kavita Krishnamurthy said she was so affectionate. My favorite memory was singing four lines with Lata Ji for a Bengali film in the year 1971. It was such a nerve-wracking experience to be sitting next to her. It is a huge loss because of me, she has been someone who represents India. She was my Guru. Kavita added that she used to listen to her songs and tried to understand her approach towards particular notes.

Actress Aruna Irani recalled her memories and said “Lata Ji was a legend, who cannot be described in words. She was in extreme pain and suffered towards the end. She gave me one of the hit songs ‘Dilbar Dil Se Pyare’ and added she put so many emotions in the song. I used to meet her at film functions, where I would bow at her feet and seek ashirward. She blessed me with all her heart. 

Sharmila Tagore shared views in one of the interviews she said,” Lata Ji’s voice is timeless. She sang many songs for her Hindi films. ‘ Kuch Dil Ne Kaha’ from ‘Anupama’ movie is top list for her. Sharmila Tagore shares, “I was a little child when I was taken to watch ‘Mahal’ (1949) and the only thing I remember is the song ‘Aayega Aanewala’, with Madhubala on the swing. Then of course there was ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ (1960). India’s history and evolution are connected to Lata Ji. She sang for decades because her voice was natural. She sang in so many languages with perfect pronunciation. Her voice is incomparable and will remain immortal.

Legend wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani shared memories of Lata Mangeshkar. He said in the year 1983, the Indian cricket team won the World Cup. Lata Mangeshkar concert was organized at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Delhi to celebrate their victory. The passing of Golden voice is a huge loss to the country and music lovers globally. She was such a down-to-earth person. Chandrashekhar and I are huge fans of Mukeshji. Kalyanji-Anandji used to invite Chandra and I use to go along because I was a big fan of music as well. We used to go to their house and Lata Ji used to be there as well. They used to give us private musical entertainment and we would always look forward to visiting their house.

Bhagyashree shared her views by adding, “Lata Ji and her family has a special connection, who spent her growing up years in the city. Families are very close to each other. Lata sang ‘Dil Deewana’ song for ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’ song. The actress said, “We celebrated Basant Panchami yesterday, it’s the day we pray to Goddess Saraswati, who is known for gifting knowledge, arts, and culture. Saraswati ki awaaz un mein thi . When we speak about a melodious voice, the first person we think of is Lataji”.She included, Every person from the industry feels the loss. I am relieved that she did not have to suffer for a long time. 

Lyricist Santosh Anand said,” What would I say? May God rest her soul in peace. I am not even capable of saying this for someone as great as her.” One of her hit songs “Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai”, whose lyrics wrote by me. She made this song magical with her voice. 

Tabassum the Veteran actress overwhelmed with the grief of the loss of a legendary star said Lata didi was not just one-of-a-kind in India but the world as well. There will never be another Lata Mangeshkar. She was a version of Maa Saraswati. She further said I knew her when I was 7-8 years old. She was recording the ‘Chup Chup Khade ho Zarur Koi Baat Hai’ song from the movie ‘ Badi Behen’. I remember Geeta Dutt and Shamshad Begum were also present at the recording and gave Lataji aashirwaad when she touched their feet before singing. Tabussam told Lata Ji would also present me with chocolates when we met. Then she would say in jest, “I’m feeding you chocolates, but don’t eat too much, else your teeth would fall.

Some celebrities express their grief on social handles by sharing their posts. Anushka Sharma wrote on Instagram handle,” God speaks through beautiful voices”. Sad sad day for India as our nightingale leaves her mortal body. Lataji’s voice has immortalized her forever. She will live in our hearts through her music. My deepest condolences to her family, friends, and fans. RIP Ltitaji,” alongside a beautiful smiling picture of the legend. 

Former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar tweeted, “ I consider myself fortunate to have been a part of Lata Didi’s life. She always showered me with her love and blessings. With her passing away, a part of me feels lost too. She’ll always continue to live in our hearts through her music”. 

Lata Mangeshkar Ji, hold everybody’s intention with her voice for the last 8 decades. She builds an immensely successful career by giving a lovely voice in thousand of songs. One of her song’s wordings-’ Meri Awaz Hi Pechaan Hai’ from the movie ‘Kinara’, she lived them too.
