Carlo Gugino was born on 29 August 1971 in Sarasota, Florida, United States. Her father is Carl Gugino, an orthodontist of Italian descent and mother of English-Irish descent. When she was 2 years old her parents separated . She travelled between her father and half-brother Carl Jr.’s home in Sarasota, and her Paradise, California, home, to which her mother moved her when she was four. When she was teenager , she worked as a fashion model and took acting classes.

Career

In beginning of his career she worked for TV and appeared in many shows- Good Morning, Miss Bliss, Who’s the Boss?, ALF, Doogie Howser, M.D., The Wonder Years and a recurring role on Falcon Crest. Gugino starred alongside Greg Wise and James Frain in the BBC miniseries The Buccaneers, an adaptation of Edith Wharton’s final novel, as Nan St. George (later the Duchess of Trevenick), in 1995. During the first season of the sitcom Spin City in 1996, she played Ashley Schaeffer, Michael J. Fox’s love interest. She co-produced and starred alongside Nicolas Cage in Brian De Palma’s Snake Eyes and Judas Kiss. During the final season of the television medical drama Chicago Hope (1999–2000), she played Dr. Gina Simon. She starred as Ingrid Cortez, the matriarch of the Cortez family, in the original Spy Kids film in 2001 (and its two sequels in 2002 and 2003).

She played Jet Li’s love interest in the martial arts action film The One the same year.In 2003, she starred in ABC’s Elmore Leonard crime thriller Karen Sisco, and in 2005, she starred in CBS’ science fiction series Threshold. Gugino also starred as Lucille in the feature film adaptation of Frank Miller’s comic novel Sin City in the same year. The next year, she played Ben Stiller’s love interest in the film Night at the Museum. Gugino played Peter Krause alongside Gugino in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s After the Fall. She made her Off-Broadway debut in late 2006, opposite Blythe Danner in Tennessee Williams’ Suddenly Last Summer. In a dozen episodes of the cable television series Entourage, Gugino played Amanda, Vincent Chase’s agent. In the May 2007 issue of Allure, Gugino was featured. She also starred in the action horror flick Rise: Blood Hunter in the feature film American Gangster in the same year.

The following year, she starred alongside Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in the thriller Righteous Kill as the female lead. Three feature films starring Gugino were released in the first three months of 2009: the thriller The Unborn, the film Watchmen, in which she played Sally Jupiter, and the adventure remake Race to Witch Mountain, in which she acted opposite Dwayne Johnson. She was nominated for an Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actress in a Play for her portrayal in Desire Under the Elms in April of that year. Later that year, she starred as a pornographic actress in the comedy film Women in Trouble, which was followed by a sequel, Elektra Luxx, in 2010, based on her role. Gugino starred with Abbie Cornish and Emily Browning as Madame Vera Gorsky in Zack Snyder’s action-adventure flick Sucker Punch in 2011. Gugino sang a duet with co-star Oscar Isaac that was featured in the film’s end credits and soundtrack. She also appeared as Abby Rhodes, Hank Moody’s attorney and love interest, in the fourth season of Californication. Gugino starred as Susan Berg, a Washington, D.C.-based investigative reporter, in the USA Network miniseries Political Animals in mid-2012. She has a lead part in the catastrophe blockbuster San Andreas in 2015, opposite Dwayne Johnson for the second time.
