2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS

Porsche has just announced the quickest and most powerful road car in its 86 year history.

The GT2 was built from 1993-2012 as a more powerful variant of the Porsche 911 Turbo that was also lighter due to its eschewing of AWD in favor of more traditional RWD. The latest GT2 blows past the earlier cars with a full 700 hp from the familiar Porsche flat-6 in 3.8 liter form. Like its predecessors, the GT2 shares a number of components with the Turbo S, but amplified for greater performance. The large turbochargers add to the boost, and a new added cooling system keeps the powertrain from overheating, and also sprays the charge-air cooler with water during extreme temperatures. Added throughput comes by way of a titanium exhaust system that is 15 pounds lighter than that used in the Porsche Turbo. Power is sent from the engine through a 7-speed double-clutch transmission.

Body changes for this most agggressive of 911s include a carbon fiber hood, a magnesium roof, and front wings, wheel housing vents, outer shells on the side view mirrors, side rear air intakes, and rear end parts made of carbon-fiber reinforced plastic. The car weighs a relatively lightweight 3241 lbs, which lends itself to an exceptionally quick 0-62 mph time of 2.8 seconds, and a top speed of 211 mph.
