The 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series is an exceptional release, a complete one-of-a-kind. In addition to its high performance, it is characterised by exclusive body parts and even higher quality interior fittings. Many hours of hand-crafting have gone into each of the 500 limited edition models.
The exterior design in itself is quite something – extraordinary. Each car boasts high-quality surfaces and a perfect finish from the front spoiler to the adjustable rear wing. The high-tech material carbon fibre was selected for this purpose and is treated extensively by hand until a perfect surface quality with a feeling of great depth is achieved. For example, on the contoured roof, the bonnet, the housing of the sports design exterior mirrors, and the extendible rear wing. To accentuate the carbon look with its fine woven structure, the roof and bonnet are masked off in the exterior colour before painting, allowing the carbon structure to shimmer through in the characteristic two-stripe design. The paint finish is applied by hand and boasts a high level of precision. The painting process is also alternated with intermediate sanding operations for a gleaming surface effect.
The 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series is recognisable by the ‘Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur’ plaques on the front wings and from the side by the distinctive carbon fibre side skirts. The side air intakes at the front and rear ends are also made of carbon fibre. The rear view is characterised by the rear wing of the Turbo Aerokit with black wing supports, the new rear apron, the ram-air scoop in carbon and the new exhaust system with two twin tailpipes made from stainless steel in black. The rear lights are tinted.
The black LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) integrated in the 911 turbo models include four-point daytime running lights, dynamic range control, speed-dependent driving light control, dynamic cornering lights and a headlight washer system. Another feature is the dynamic, camera-controlled high beam control PDLS Plus.
Customers can choose from Golden Yellow Metallic, which has been developed exclusively for the small series and is only available for this model, Agate Grey Metallic and Carrera White Metallic. As of February 2018, it will also be available in very limited numbers in Black, Guards Red and Graphite Blue Metallic.
Exclusive wheels and ceramic brakes as standard
One unmistakeable feature of the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series is the newly designed 20-inch wheels with central locking and design lines in Golden Yellow. The wheels are first primed in Golden-Yellow Metallic and then painted in high-gloss black. Only then are extremely precise design lines in the exterior colour of Golden Yellow Metallic teased out by laser – a technology first used by Porsche. The wheels with gold yellow design lines are reserved exclusively for the small series ex factory. From the end of 2017, the wheel design in high-gloss black will also be available from Porsche Tequipment as a retrofit option for other 911 Turbo models.
Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) 410 x 36 mm brake discs are used at the front, and 390 x 32 mm discs are used at the rear. For the first time, the brake callipers for the PCCB ceramic brake system are available ex works in a black-painted version rather than the usual yellow, with the Porsche logo in Golden Yellow Metallic.
Interior design with great attention to detail
Even climbing into the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series is something special: The door entry guards, also finished in carbon, come with illuminated Exclusive Series lettering. The interior features leather, Alcantara and carbon fibre. The decorative trims on the dashboard, the door panels and the centre console panel are also made of this lightweight material. In a car manufacturing first, gold-coloured metallic thread is woven into all carbon elements – a feature previously considered unfeasible.
Decorative golden yellow stitching in the black leather interior also accentuates the exterior colour. This stitching is found on the dashboard, the door panels, the steering wheel rim and the steering column trim. Passengers cannot fail to recognise the love of detail and extensive handcrafting that have gone into the lavish leather trim. For example, the housing and slats of the interior air vents and the inner side skirts are lined in black leather. The rear centre tunnel is also lined in fine leather and embroidered with golden yellow stitching. The high degree of individualisation can be seen in the matching vehicle document holder made of genuine leather embossed with golden yellow stitching, as well as the corresponding key fob complete with key finished in the exterior colour of the vehicle.
The instrument cluster of the small series is also unique and sets itself apart with white pointers and gold yellow design elements in the tachometer. The stopwatch with white needle features black casing. A further distinguishing detail is found on the decorative panel above the glove box: a limited edition badge with model logo and personal limited edition number.
The 18-position adjustable adaptive sports seats with seat heating and seat ventilation are both comfortable and elegant. The seats are coated in two layers of perforated leather. The inside layer has two stripes in Golden Yellow, guaranteeing a unique effect. Finished in the same colour, the stitching, which features a new seam pattern, and the embroidered Turbo S lettering stand out from the black leather. The roof lining is made of Alcantara with a Golden Yellow double-stripe look.
The floor mats come with leather edging in black and decorative stitching in Golden Yellow.
The Bose sound system with twelve loudspeakers and a total output of 550 watts as standard ensures an exceptional listening experience. The Burmester High-End Surround Sound System with twelve loudspeakers, twelve amplifier channels and a total output of 821 watts is optionally available for even greater musical enjoyment.
Engine and drive: Even more power for the Turbo
With 580 hp, the Porsche 911 Turbo S is not short on power. The 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series goes one better: Higher boost pressure and specific engine control increase the performance of the engine. The 3.8-litre, six-cylinder biturbo flat engine of the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series provides 446 kW (607 hp), and therefore 19 kW (27 hp) more than the 911 Turbo S. Compared with the standard vehicle, the engine now has a permanent maximum torque of 750 Nm, delivering between 2,250 and 4,000 rpm. Two turbochargers with variable turbine geometry (VTG) help to ensure a dynamic response, high torque and extraordinary performance values. Porsche is the only manufacturer to use turbochargers with variable turbine geometry in conjunction with petrol engines. Forged connecting rods and aluminium pistons are taken from the series engine. The cylinders are made from an aluminium-silicon alloy.
The sports car can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, reaching 200 km/h in 9.6 seconds. This takes three tenths of a second off the time achieved by the 911 Turbo S standard model. The top speed is 330 km/h. But that’s not all: the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series combines high acceleration and sprint qualities with excellent lateral dynamics. Nevertheless, the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series is efficient: Fuel consumption is the same as the standard model at 9.1 l/100 km combined. This corresponds to CO2 emissions of 212 g/km.
The power transmission is handled by the seven-speed Porsche double-clutch transmission (PDK) as standard. This combines the high mechanical efficiency of a manual transmission with the shifting and driving convenience of an automatic transmission. Rapid gear changes with uninterrupted traction, combined with a slight torque enhancement in the Sport programmes, results in improved acceleration values. The optimal transmission-ratio spread and shifting strategy of the PDK also provide benefits in terms of efficiency.
Chassis and performance: All-wheel drive and rear axle steering for best traction
Power is one thing. Achieving it one hundred percent on the road is another. To this end, the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series uses a large number of standard assistance systems. These include, among others, Porsche Stability Management (PSM), intelligent all-wheel drive Porsche Traction Management (PTM) and the chassis control system Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), the latter of which helps to provide active roll stabilisation and more neutral handling. The vehicle dynamics are further enhanced by the rear axle steering, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+), including electronically controlled rear axle interlock. Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA) ensures an optimal ratio of downforce and drag. The system adapts the front spoiler and rear wing automatically based on the current driving situation and helps to maintain optimum performance.
Thanks to the Sport Chrono Package, the driver can opt for even sportier tuning of the chassis, engine and transmission. Even in normal mode, the engine responds audibly and sportily with a short burst of acceleration during downshift. Using the mode switch on the steering wheel, the driver can choose from four settings: Normal, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual mode. Individual mode enables the driver to adapt the vehicle to his or her personal style of driving. In Sport mode, the engine responds even more directly, while the PDK is set up for shorter response times and optimum shifting points to provide maximum acceleration. The transmission shifts down earlier and extends the time between shifting. Intermediate acceleration is activated automatically when downshifting. In Sport Plus mode, these characteristics are even more pronounced and tailored to maximum performance. This mode features a Launch Control function for a racing start. PASM, rear-axle steering and PDCC provide even sportier damping and more direct cornering. In addition, the front spoiler and rear wing are moved to their performance position by Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA). In other words, more downforce for better traction. Drivers can also press a “Sport Response” switch, which primes the engine and transmission to unleash power as quickly as possible. This ensures maximum responsiveness – for a period of around 20 seconds.
Rear axle steering comes as standard. This system steers the rear wheels counter to the steering direction of the front wheels at speeds of up to around 50 km/h, which effectively shortens the wheelbase. This creates a smaller turning circle, significantly improves steering behaviour in corners and makes manoeuvring noticeably easier. At speeds above 80 km/h, the system steers the rear wheels in the same direction as the front wheels. This effectively increases the wheelbase for improved vehicle stability when changing lanes quickly on the motorway, for example. The steering ratio on the front axle is also designed to be ten per cent more direct than without rear axle steering.
Power and longitudinal acceleration are critical in a sports car. However, high cornering speeds and high-precision driving are no less important. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system integrated as standard therefore provides improved road grip and more precise steering behaviour in the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series. Porsche Stability Management (PSM), which provides automatic stabilisation control of the vehicle at the limits of its driving dynamics, permanently monitors the direction of travel, speed, yaw velocity and lateral acceleration. The system improves traction when accelerating on a range of different road surfaces.
Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+) and the electronically controlled rear-axle interlock improve agility, steering precision and steering response as standard. Both systems provide targeted braking interventions on the inside rear wheel when cornering and improve traction during rapid acceleration out of tight corners. Active PDCC anti-roll stabilisation has been modified in line with the higher power. The benefits of this are a low roll tendency and even better stability around corners.
The combination of PASM and the dynamic engine mounting of the Sport Chrono Package provides a further improvement to driving dynamics. The electronically controlled system minimises vibrations from the drivetrain and reduces movements that can influence driving dynamics due to the overall weight of the drivetrain. As a result, it combines the advantages of hard and soft engine mounting: handling is noticeably more stable under load changes and around fast corners without having to compromise on driving comfort on uneven roads.
Exclusive matching timepiece from Porsche Design
The Porsche Design Chronograph 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series represents the first time that Porsche Design has released a chronograph for Porsche customers that can be customised to have the same visual design features as the vehicle. The exclusive chronograph combines the characteristic features of Porsche Design watches with the character of the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series: Just like the vehicle, it is limited to 500 units. Its housing is made of lightweight titanium, and its black titanium carbide coating emphasises its sporty design. The carbon dial is taken from the striking carbon weave stripes on the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series and finished in the actual paint used on the vehicle. The rotor design is modelled on the rims of the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series and painted in the original colour. The winding mechanism features a typical Porsche central lock with the Porsche crest on the movement. Even the leather strap features a reference to the car: It is made of the same luxurious leather and features the same yarn as used for the seats. Inspired by the performance of the exceptional sports car, Porsche Design has developed its own mechanical movement for the Chronograph 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series. The chronograph, equipped with flyback mechanism and Werk 01.200 movement, is a technical masterpiece in terms of precision, functionality and performance. The matching chronograph can only be individually configured by buyers of the small series and ordered at the Porsche Centre.
