2017 McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo

McLaren has created this stunning futuristic race car for the PlayStation 4 video game Gran Turismo Sport to give an idea of what their vehicles might look like in the 2030s. While a racing car, the exterior design could just as easily reflect a hypercar 15 years from today.

One feature is the next generation of active aerodynamics which McLaren calls Integrated Active Aero. It operates by opening tiny aperture covers around small air inlets to increase drag in select locations during cornering, which generates downforce for increased control. This intricate but elegant system is both flexible and it reduces the need for larger aerodynamic parts to control downforce.

While none of the images give a clear view of this, the design is for the driver to lay or lean in a forward posture, similar to a racing bike.

Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 4 liter V8 hybrid producing 1134 hp and 940 lb-ft of torque.

One interesting thing about the design is that it really doesn't share any design cues with the current McLaren lineup, whether for road or track. It may simply be a flight of fancy from the design team; or perhaps the design reflects elements of other future production McLarens on the drawing board. They really did a beautiful job, so hopefully we will see some of these ideas in future McLarens.
