2016 Jaguar I-Pace Concept

The Jaguar I-Pace crossover concept was designed from the ground up as an electric car, one that will see production in 2018, and may form the basis of other electric vehicles from Jaguar Land Rover. While Jaguar calls the design a "sports car," which is really pushing it, the concept received considerable praise during its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, and the performance stats are impressive as well. The crossover will do 0-60 mph in 4 seconds, thanks to 400 hp and a full 516 lb-ft of torque.

The I-Pace has a range of over 310 miles in optimum driving conditions. A 50kW DC charging system will offer up to 80% charging in 90 minutes, or a full 100% charge in a little over 2 hours. Electric cars are reaching the point of efficiency where concepts like quick battery changes are probably unnecessary for the vast majority of drivers. The only limitation now is getting charging stations in as many locations as possible.

If Jaguar can price the car competitively, they should have a successful and even ground-breaking entry in the electric vehicle field.
