On March 31, 1932, Henry Ford announced a new automotive milestone:  the Ford V-8.  Although V-8s had become relatively common at that point, they had not yet filtered down to the low-range market represented by marques like Ford. To put this in perspective, Ford's low-cost competitor Chevrolet did not get its own V-8 until 1955, 23 years later.  Ford made V-8 power accessible to the broad range of car buyers, and in doing so they did more than any other auto manufacturer to spur a nascent custom car culture that reached full-flower in the 1950s.
