(from General Motors Press Release) Chevrolet SEMA Truck Concepts Strong on Personalization

LAS VEGAS – Chevrolet today revealed six new concept trucks and SUVs on the eve of the SEMA Show, the annual convention of automotive performance parts and styling accessories. The uniquely styled vehicles represent performance and personalization variations of the 2014 Silverado 1500, as well as the all-new 2015 Silverado HD, Tahoe and Suburban.

The concepts include the performance-oriented, lightweight Silverado Cheyenne, a Brad Paisley signature-edition concept, a sinister-looking all-black Tahoe and even a Tahoe police vehicle. Each wears genuine Chevrolet Accessories available from Chevrolet dealerships, allowing customers to personalize their trucks to their interests.

“Chevrolet’s lineup of full-size trucks and SUVs is all-new and stronger than ever,” said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet marketing. “No matter what your needs, whether it’s hauling lumber to a work site, delivering your kid’s soccer team to a game or towing your boat on a weekend fishing trip, Chevrolet has the vehicle with the capability, dependability and connectivity today’s truck customers want.”

In addition to the concepts introduced today, Chevrolet is also showing the Silverado Black Ops and Volunteer Firefighter concepts unveiled in September. Throughout the SEMA Show, Chevrolet will give a Silverado Z71 Crew Cab a personality makeover daily, changing its appearance from luxury to sport to work-truck and to outdoors themes – all to demonstrate the depth and breadth of Chevrolet Accessories.

“The accessories enable customers to tailor their new Chevy truck with an unprecedented level of personalization options,” said Perry. “They’re the perfect complements to already comprehensive packages of performance, capability and versatility – and they can be installed by the dealer for a seamless buying experience.”

E-ROD-Powered 1978 Chevy 4X4 Combines classic Style with Modern Performance – And Emissions Compliance

Blending classic styling with modern performance, the 1978 Chevrolet Performance 4x4 pickup concept demonstrates the limitless possibilities for Chevrolet Performance’s Connect & Cruise crate powertrain systems.

Chevrolet introduced the truck today at the SEMA Show, the annual convention of automotive performance parts and styling accessories. It’s powered by an E-ROD 5.3L system – an emissions-compliant powertrain package that includes an automatic-overdrive transmission, control modules, wiring harnesses and other key components all under one part number.

“Chevrolet Performance continues to make it easier for enthusiasts to build the project vehicle of their dreams and this concept vehicle exemplifies only one of the countless ways enthusiasts can put the comprehensive Connect & Cruise systems to use,” said Jim Campbell, GM U.S. vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “The innovative E-ROD crate engine also matches high-performance with environmental responsibility.”

The specially calibrated controllers of the Connect & Cruise powertrain systems are designed for retrofit installations in older vehicles, for easier and quicker installation and operation without the need for third-party tuning – and the E-ROD versions include additional equipment that makes them eligible for installation in approximately 20 million 1995-and-earlier cars and trucks in California that predate OBD II on-board emissions diagnostics.

The 327-cubic-inch E-ROD 5.3L engine is rated at 326 horsepower – approximately 80 horses more than the available 454-cubic-inch big-block engine in 1978 – and it’s matched with a 4L70-E automatic transmission. The overdrive transmission enhances the drivability and efficiency of the classic truck, with reduced engine rpm while cruising on the highway.

Chevrolet Performance also offers LS3 and supercharged LSA Connect & Cruise package that are available in E-ROD configurations. All E-ROD systems include complete emissions equipment, such as catalytic converters and a fuel tank evaporative emissions canister.

For builders outside of California, LS376-480, LS376-525 and LS7 Connect & Cruise systems are offered, in addition to the 5.3L, LS3 and LSA packages. Each package – including E-ROD systems – carries a 24-month/50,000-mile limited warranty.

Chevrolet Performance offers a guide for installing an LS-family engine in a vehicle not originally equipped with it. It is available under part number 88959384 and can be purchased through Chevrolet dealerships.

Restored and updated

The classic 1978 Chevy truck’s regular-cab/short-box body features a contemporary black-and-red two-tone paint scheme, along with reconditioning bright exterior trim. New 16x8-inch silver powder-coated wheels wrapped with LT305/70R16 all-terrain tires also contribute to a more contemporary stance.

The restored body is mounted on a refurbished frame that was media-blasted and powder-coated matte black. The front and rear suspensions were restored with rebuilt springs and axles, and all-new bushings. The power steering system was rebuilt, along with the original transfer case.

On the inside, the blend of vintage and new continues with re-trimmed seat weather red leatherette surrounding red-and-black houndstooth cloth inserts. The original instrument panel is updated, too, with modern gauges.

“We couldn’t improve on the vintage styling of this Chevy truck, but with its greater horsepower and comparable torque, the E-ROD 5.3L enhances its capability,” said Campbell. “That’s the essence of Chevrolet Performance’s Connect & Cruise powertrains – giving customers the best modern technology to complement their classic cruiser.”

Silverado Cheyenne concept

The Chevrolet Silverado Cheyenne concept embraces the adage that less is more. With this performance-oriented concept of the all-new 2014 Silverado regular cab, a reduced curb weight and the performance of the new 420-horsepower 6.2L V-8 combine for a strong power-to-weight ratio and exhilarating performance.

A lowered ride height, a rear stabilizer bar and Brembo carbon ceramic brakes complement the Cheyenne concept’s high-performance personality with enhanced handling and braking capability. It rides on charcoal-painted 19-inch Camaro Z/28 aluminum wheels and high-performance tires.

The unique lightweight features built into the concept vehicle include carbon fiber replacements for the bumpers, tailgate and inner cargo box. The Camaro Z/28 Brembo carbon ceramic brakes offer additional weight savings, too, as the carbon ceramic-matrix rotors are significantly lighter than conventional steel rotors. Overall, the lightweight parts shaved approximately 200 pounds.

The all-new EcoTec3 6.2L V-8 that powers the concept truck is rated at 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque – the most power in the light-duty truck segment. It’s not available in regular-production Silverado regular cab models, giving the Cheyenne a 65-horsepower and 77 lb-ft boost over the production 5.3L V-8. A Borla performance exhaust system adds an authoritative note to the 6.2L’s output.

Brad Paisley Signature Silverado

Like his music, the concept vehicle country star Brad Paisley collaborated on with Chevrolet designers blends tasteful country style with an edge, featuring a custom paint job, high-performance accents, a lowered stance and – no surprise here – an amped-up sound system.

The custom-blended paint scheme incorporates Paisley’s logo as a styling element. It’s accented with a performance-oriented hood extractor vent and tailgate aero lip, black tubular assist steps, Chevrolet Accessories 22-inch wheels – custom-painted matte black – Chevrolet Accessories chrome tow hooks and a spray-in bedliner with an integrated Chevrolet bowtie logo in the bed.

The stance is lowered two inches and red brake calipers are visible through the black wheels. There’s also a Borla performance exhaust system.

Inside, Paisley’s Silverado is equipped with a rear-seat entertainment system and a Kicker subwoofer that enhances the audio system with richer sound. Paisley also helped select the cabin’s color and trim, which includes blue suede inserts in the black leather seats – accented with blue stitching – and additional anodized blue interior trim.

Tony Stewart Silverado concept

It takes a strong truck to live up to the speed, energy and passion of Tony Stewart. This Silverado LTZ Z71 concept was designed in conjunction with Stewart, with personal touches and Smoke® graphics that symbolize his racing spirit. The exterior also features a Dark Tarnished Silver color, tinted headlamps and taillamps, and several Chevrolet Accessories components available through Chevy dealers, including a tonneau cover, four-inch chrome assist steps and 22-inch wheels with a custom finish. Inside, the Stewart’s signature is embroidered on the headrests.

Silverado HD Dually tow vehicle

Demonstrating the hauling capability of the all-new 2015 Silverado HD lineup, this crew cab concept is shown in Chevrolet’s SEMA Show display hitched to a custom trailer holding a COPO Camaro race car and with a new COPO racing engine and transmission in the bed. Decked out in a custom Ice Blue exterior color and wearing custom lightweight aluminum wheels, the truck also sports Chevrolet Accessories components including six-inch chrome assist steps, a tool box and bed lights. The HD Dually tow vehicle is powered by the 6.0L gas engine and six-speed automatic transmission.

Suburban Half-Pipe concept

The 2015 Suburban Half-Pipe Concept is equipped to haul adventurers and all their ski and snowboard gear to the slopes. It’s equipped with Chevrolet Accessories’ roof rack and crossbars to mount skis and other equipment along with Chevrolet Accessories 22-inch wheels and center caps for a more distinctive appearance. Inside, passengers can be entertained with a Blu-ray-based rear-seat entertainment system and leather-trimmed seats. Fold-flat second- and third-row seats make it easier to haul cargo inside the 2015 Suburban.

Tahoe Black concept

A lowered stance and all-black profile lend an aggressive appearance to the Tahoe Black concept – a stylized look at the all-new 2015 Tahoe arriving in in Chevrolet dealer showrooms early next year. The dark appearance is reinforced with blacked-out exterior trim, Chevrolet Accessories 22-inch wheels custom-painted dark gray, tinted headlamp lenses and tinted windows all around and an aero-style body package. Inside, the Tahoe is trimmed in black leather with Carbon Flash Metallic trim accents.

Tahoe Police concept

Chevrolet is readying a police version of the new Tahoe, and this concept offers a look at how law enforcement will be hitting the highway in it in the near future. The full complement of emergency lighting and police equipment is comes with the Tahoe 9C1 police package’s standard equipment, including a 5.3L V-8 engine rated at 355 horsepower, a six-speed automatic transmission, 17-inch steel wheels, police-specific suspension and auxiliary battery for emergency equipment.
